Gattaca may be one of the most masterfully crafted and perfectly constructed movies ever made, and almost certainly the finest ever made in the science fiction thriller mode. Every beat, every image, every character serves a total whole. It was Niccol's first film as a director, and Ethan Hawke, who plays Vincent, has called it one of the great directorial debuts of all time.
Run in the spirit of the Literary Canon Club, this session will move through the film's construction, its story and characters, its meaning and its philosophy. You will walk away with a deeper understanding of how film works as an art form, and of how this film executes its theme flawlessly.
